We use your personal data to provide and improve the service. By using MatNotes, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Interpretation and Definitions

Words with capitalized initial letters have meanings defined below. These definitions apply whether the terms appear in singular or plural form.

• Account — a unique account created for you to access the service
• Affiliate — an entity that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with a party (50%+ ownership)
• Application — refers to MatNotes, the software program provided by the Company
• Company — refers to MatNotes and Joseph Rausch
• Country — California, United States
• Device — any device used to access the service (computer, phone, tablet)
• Personal Data — any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual. We use "Personal Data" and "Personal Information" interchangeably.
• Service — the MatNotes application
• Service Provider — third-party companies or individuals that process data on our behalf to facilitate or improve the service
• Usage Data — data collected automatically from your use of the service (e.g. IP address, pages visited, time spent)
• You — the individual accessing or using the service

Personal Data

While using MatNotes, we may ask you to provide personally identifiable information, which may include:

Usage data is collected automatically when using the service. It may include your device's IP address, browser type and version, pages visited, time and date of visits, time spent on pages, unique device identifiers, and other diagnostic data. When accessing via mobile device, we may also collect device type, device unique ID, mobile operating system, and mobile browser type.

How We Use Your Personal Data

We may use your personal data for the following purposes:

• To provide and maintain the service, including monitoring usage
• To manage your account and your registration as a user
• To contact you via email regarding updates, security notices, or service communications
• To manage your requests and support inquiries
• For business transfers — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
• For analytics and improvement — to understand usage trends and improve the service

How We Share Your Personal Data

• With Service Providers — Supabase (data storage) and OpenAI (AI processing) to operate the service
• For business transfers — in connection with a merger, sale, or acquisition
• With your consent — for any other purpose with your explicit consent
• For legal compliance — when required by law or valid public authority request

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

Retention of Your Personal Data

We retain your personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy. Retention periods by category:

• Account information — retained for the duration of your account plus up to 24 months after closure
• Support correspondence — up to 24 months from ticket closure
• Usage and server logs — up to 24 months for security and troubleshooting

When retention periods expire, data is securely deleted or anonymized. Residual copies may remain in encrypted backups temporarily and are not restored except for security or legal compliance purposes.

Transfer of Your Personal Data

Your information may be processed at locations outside your state or country where data protection laws may differ. We take reasonable steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. No transfer will occur unless adequate controls are in place.

Delete Your Personal Data

You have the right to request deletion of your personal data. You may manage your information through your account settings, or contact us at matnotesbjj@gmail.com to request access, correction, or deletion. Note that we may retain certain data where required by legal obligation.

• Business transactions — merger, acquisition, or asset sale (you will be notified beforehand)
• Law enforcement — when required by law or valid government request
• Legal requirements — to comply with legal obligations, protect Company rights, prevent wrongdoing, or protect user safety

The security of your personal data is important to us. We use Row Level Security in our database to ensure users can only access their own data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

MatNotes is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to remove that information from our servers.

Our service may contain links to third-party websites not operated by us. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites.
