Terms of Service

Welcome to MatNotes. By creating an account and using this application, you agree to the following terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Who Can Use MatNotes

MatNotes is intended for users 18 years of age and older. By using this app, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we reserve the right to terminate their account immediately.

2. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Please use a strong, unique password and notify us immediately at matnotesbjj@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access. We reserve the right to remove or reclaim any username we deem inappropriate.

3. Your Content

You own your training notes and any content you enter into MatNotes. We do not claim ownership of your data. Your notes are used solely to provide you with the MatNotes service — specifically, to process and display your training reflections and insights.

We use OpenAI's API to process your notes. By using MatNotes, you agree that your note content may be sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI's usage policies apply. We do not store your data with OpenAI beyond what is required for processing.

By submitting content, you grant MatNotes a limited license to store, process, and display that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. We will not use your personal training notes for advertising, sale, or any purpose beyond operating the app.

4. What We Do With Your Data

  • We store your email address and training notes securely via Supabase
  • We do not sell your data to third parties
  • We do not use your data for advertising
  • We do not share your data with anyone except as required to provide the service (Supabase for storage, OpenAI for AI processing)

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use MatNotes for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to access another user's data
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, hack, or disrupt the service
  • Upload content that is harmful, abusive, or violates any applicable law
  • Use automated scripts or bots to access the service
  • Impersonate another user or person
  • Use the service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its operation

6. Service Availability

MatNotes is provided as-is, as a beta product. We make no guarantees about uptime, availability, or the accuracy of AI-generated reflections. The AI processing is intended to help you organize your thoughts — it is not a substitute for professional coaching or instruction. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time without notice.

7. Intellectual Property

The MatNotes name, design, and underlying code are the exclusive property of Joseph Rausch. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute any part of the MatNotes application without written permission. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved.

8. Feedback

If you provide feedback or suggestions about MatNotes, we may use that feedback to improve the product without any obligation to compensate or credit you.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, without notice, if you violate these terms or for any other reason at our sole discretion. You may stop using MatNotes at any time.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS. USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MATNOTES AND JOSEPH RAUSCH SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

12. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless MatNotes and Joseph Rausch from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use of the service, your content, or your violation of these terms.

13. Dispute Resolution

We hope to resolve any issues informally first. Please contact us at matnotesbjj@gmail.com and we will make a good-faith effort to resolve it within 30 days. If informal resolution fails, any dispute shall be resolved by binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association (AAA) Commercial Arbitration Rules, conducted in California. Both parties waive the right to a jury trial and to participate in class action lawsuits.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.

15. California Users

If you are a California resident with an unresolved complaint, you may contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by phone at (800) 952-5210.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via email. Continued use of MatNotes after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
